01 · WHY OFFLINE

為什麼離線

多數密碼管理器會把你的密碼庫同步到雲端。PassNest 選擇不這麼做，這有好處，也有代價。

這代表

  • 沒有伺服器可以被入侵你的密碼庫只在你的電腦上，不會因為某家公司的伺服器出事而外洩。
  • 沒有帳號可以被盜不需要註冊，也就沒有帳號被釣魚或被撞庫的問題。
  • 不依賴網路斷網、出國或在飛機上，密碼庫照樣能打開。

代價，先說清楚

  • 忘記主密碼就無法找回我們沒有你的金鑰，也沒有「重設密碼」可以按。
  • 裝置之間要自己搬移沒有雲端同步。換電腦或在兩台電腦上使用，要用加密備份檔自己移動。
  • 備份由你負責建議開啟排程自動匯出，並把備份檔另外存放一份。

加密方式

給在意技術細節的人。以下是 PassNest 保護你資料的方式。

金鑰衍生
主密碼經 Argon2id 衍生出加密金鑰。參數：記憶體 ≥ 64 MB、迭代 ≥ 3、平行度 ≥ 4。
資料加密
每一筆資料都以 AES-256-GCM 加密，每次加密都使用新的隨機 96-bit nonce。
記憶體處理
金鑰與敏感資料用完後立即從記憶體清除。
只解密需要的
介面只解密你正在看的那一筆，其餘資料維持加密。

常見問題

忘記主密碼怎麼辦？

無法找回。我們沒有你的主密碼，也沒有任何方式能重設它。請妥善保管主密碼，並定期匯出備份。

怎麼搬到新電腦？

在舊電腦匯出 .passnest 備份檔，複製到新電腦後，在 PassNest 裡匯入即可。

解除安裝會刪掉密碼庫嗎？

不會。密碼庫留在你電腦上的 PassNest 資料夾，解除安裝不會刪除它。

為什麼沒有雲端同步？

離線是 PassNest 的設計原則。同步需要伺服器與帳號，也就多了可以被攻擊的地方。需要在兩台電腦間使用時，請用加密備份檔搬移。

你們看得到我的密碼嗎？

看不到。PassNest 不連網，我們也沒有任何伺服器接收你的資料。

Why offline

Most password managers sync your vault to the cloud. PassNest doesn't. That has benefits, and it has costs.

What it means

  • No server to break intoYour vault lives only on your computer. It can't leak because some company's server was breached.
  • No account to stealThere's nothing to sign up for, so there's no account to phish or hit with reused passwords.
  • No dependence on the networkOffline, abroad or on a plane, your vault still opens.

  • A forgotten master password can't be recoveredWe don't have your key, and there's no "reset password" button.

03 · ENCRYPTION

How encryption works

For those who care about the technical details, here is how PassNest protects your data.

Technical details
Key derivation
Your master password is turned into an encryption key with Argon2id. Parameters: memory ≥ 64 MB, iterations ≥ 3, parallelism ≥ 4.
Data encryption
Every item is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, using a fresh random 96-bit nonce each time.
Memory handling
Keys and sensitive data are wiped from memory as soon as they're no longer needed.
Decrypt only what's shown
The interface decrypts only the item you're viewing. Everything else stays encrypted.

FAQ

What if I forget my master password?

It can't be recovered. We don't have your master password and have no way to reset it. Keep your master password safe and export backups regularly.

How do I move to a new computer?

Export a .passnest backup on your old computer, copy it to the new one, and import it in PassNest.

Does uninstalling delete my vaults?

No. Your vaults stay in the PassNest folder on your computer. Uninstalling doesn't remove them.

Why is there no cloud sync?

Staying offline is a design principle of PassNest. Sync needs a server and an account, and both are more things to attack. To use PassNest on two computers, move an encrypted backup file between them.

Can you see my passwords?

No. PassNest never connects to the network, and we have no server that receives your data.
